Just two months after ASUS ZenFone Max Plus (M1) got an upgrade from Android 7.0 to Android 8.1 Asus reported on their support forum that the upgrade to Android Pie 9.0 is also coming “in the future”.
Update March 2, 2019: Update notice was removed from the forum. Read more in the Take down notice.

Here’s the quote from Selena_ASUS, one of the moderators of Zenfone forum:
“ZB570TL, ASUS will provide the “Android Pie” update in the future.
In order to brings best performance and exciting new features to ASUS phone. Please be patient for the “Android Pie” image update notification release on ASUS website.
Thank you for your great support and love ASUS products.”
Note that ZB570TL is the internal model name for Zenfone Max Plus (M1) at Asus. However, if you check the Model number in your phones’ settings, it will probably say ASUS_X018D.
Android P was released on August 6, 2018. This news comes to the forum almost exactly 5 months after the Android 9 release date.
What do you think about this piece of info? Are you looking forward to having Android Pie 9.0 on your Zenfone? How long are you willing to wait to receive the update? Let me and the community know in the comments.

Just want to say thanks for posting updates about this, have been checking ASUS Zen Talk but it’s kinda hard to identify any definitive answers. I really think that they should be announcing something officially, seems like the decent thing to do. I will be checking here and keeping my fingers crossed for the update this month or hopefully 9.0 – bf’s phone is basically just a useless brick atm. No signal, battery drains in hours. D:
Hi A White,
thanks so much for your comment here.
I agree, Asus should be decent about its user base and keep us informed about if and how they are solving the issues. After all, we have all invested some money and time in their products and with that put the trust in them. I’m afraid they’re abusing this trust now but hopefully they can gain it back by actually solving the problems.
As for Android 9.0, I wouldn0t count on it to arrive any time soon to our phones. Even Android 8.1 needed long, even 4 months longer as they promised. In my opinion Android 9 can not arrive sooner than in autumn of 2019. I hope that I’m wrong with this one!
